Reference Notes

"As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.  (Matthew 3:10-12)

Jesus brought a way for man to be forgiven for His sins but He also brought the Holy Spirit that He could give the Spirit to man to lead and guide him through his life.  The Holy Spirit gives us a conscience that lets us divine what is right and wrong according to God.  If the Holy Spirit convicts us of something in our life we need to listen to that conviction and repent of that sin by asking Christ for forgiveness and then turn away from that sin by asking Christ for the way away from that sin and also the strength to resist it.

"Truly I say to you, all sins shall be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter;  but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin"--  because they were saying, "He has an unclean spirit."
(Mark 3: 28-30)

All sins except one (blaspheme against the Holy Spirit) can and will be forgiven if you ask Christ for forgiveness.

So what is the one unforgivable sin that is talked about when it is written -

"Truly I say to you, all sins shall be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter;  but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin"

We are told that we will receive forgiveness for sins and eternal life with God if we accept Christ as our savior and ask Him to forgive our sins.  We are also told that if we do not accept Christ we will not inherit eternal life but rather eternal condemnation.

"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.'" (John 14:6).

He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.  (Mark 16:16)

Therefore I believe that the one unforgivable sin is to not accept Christ before you die.  Once you die you no longer have the opportunity to accept Christ as your Lord and Savior - we must do this in this lifetime - or forever face the consequences.
